NIH Guidelines for Research Involving Recombinant DNA Molecules E-Book

Overview

The purpose of the NIH Guidelines is to specify practices for constructing and handling: (i) recombinant deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) molecules, and (ii) organisms and viruses containing recombinant DNA molecules.

Any recombinant DNA experiment, which according to the NIH Guidelines requires approval by NIH, must be submitted to NIH or to another Federal agency that has jurisdiction for review and approval. Once approvals, or other applicable clearances, have been obtained from a Federal agency other than NIH (whether the experiment is referred to that agency by NIH or sent directly there by the submitter), the experiment may proceed without the necessity for NIH review or approval.

We have created this E-Book version of these NIH Guildlines to allow you quick access to the information contained in the guidelines. Contained in these NIH Guildlines are the following topics:
  • Definition of Recombinant DNA Molecules
  • Compliance with NIH Guidelines
  • Risk Assessment
  • Experiments Covered by the NIH Guildlines
  • Footnotes and ReferencesBR>
  • Exemptions
  • Classification of Human Etiologic Agents on the Basis of Hazards
  • Major actions taken under the NIH Guideline
  • Certified Host-Vector Systems
  • Containment Conditions for Cloning of Genes Coding for the Biosynthesis of Molecules Toxic for Vertebrates
  • Shipment
  • Gene Therapy Policy Conferences (GTPCS)
